Help with MLA style - headings and page number?

I am taking College Composition and have to write papers following MLA style. I am having a hard time formatting the heading and page number. I tried putting the heading and page number on the same heading and it appears on all pages. I just want the heading on the first page and the pages number on all pages. How can I do that? If someone can tell me step by step it'd be nice. Thanks a lot!
